In the modern farming world, farm buildings play a crucially important role. This well-illustrated book brings together information on a wide range of subjects concerning farm buildings and provides a unique, practical reference source for farmers and smallholders alike. Topics examined include the law as it concerns the construction and environmental impact of farm buildings; traditional and new farm structures; constructing buildings using concrete, wood, steel, and other materials; foundations, walls, floors, roofs, and frames; water, electricity, heating, and ventilation; and the conversion of existing farm buildings into structures with new uses.

The son of a dairy farmer, Richard Langley is a graduate in agricultural engineering and holds an MSc degree in Building Conservation. Richard was a Senior Lecturer in Agricultural Engineering at Writtle College, Chelmsford, for nearly twenty years and dealt with both the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject. He is now a self-employed agricultural engineering consultant.
