Aufses, Jr., has been affiliated with Mount Sinai for more than forty-five years. He served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery from 1974 to 1996. They are also authors of This House of Noble Deeds: The Mount Sinai Hospital, 1852-2002 (NYU Press, 2003).
